Well, most famous would be elvis... remembered would be Mercury or Hendrix but personally i will remember Kurt Cobain as one of the greatest musician of all time, Long Live The Grunge!
Elvis is probably remembered by the most people, as he is the most popular and most famous of those stars you've listed. His could be the most famous death as well. His closest rival on both counts is one you haven't listed - John Lennon.
Incidentally, there are only two names on your list who I never particularly rated as musicians - Kurt Cobain and Sid Vicious. In my opinion, the rest are a great loss to the world of music, having created some awesome sounds in their time on Earth.

Well my answer will be Phil Lynott cos he was a genius and I miss his music, never liked Elvis really (but not old enough to of appreciated the hype) Don't like Lennon's music and he went weird once he left the Beatles!
