Freddie learned to play the piano in boarding school. He showed such promise that his parents were persuaded to pay a little more on his school fees for music lessons which involved a lot of classical music. People called his piano playing "affected" and "a bit like Mozart". Freddie loved playing the piano but felt he was mediocre at best. If you ever watch clips of him playing you will notice that his hand technique is off. I don't know much about piano but where most play with the tips of their fingers, he played with his hands flat and his palms resting on the piano. I thought he was a fabulous pianist. I've heard that the intro to "Seven Seas of Rhye" is ridiculously hard to play. Even as many times as Freddie played it he still had to concentrate so as not to screw it up. I miss him so!

i think he played the skin flute

Freddie had some basic classical training on the piano, he never considered himself very good (though I think he was!). Brian May and John Deacon also played piano.

Puddee, awesome answer! Freddie rocked though. Right now, he doesn't own a piano, but he is decomposing.

Well, I don't know much about his training.
I'm pretty sure he had some basic training while at Boarding School,
and,
I don't know if this affects how you play or not,
I know that he was double-jointed.
I think that would affect the way somebody would play piano,
but I'm not sure.

Freddie had classical training, while in boarding school in India. His parents paid the extra fee, for he showed his talent early. His first performance as a pianist was there, at his school, with his first band "The Hectics". He was not the lead singer back then. His classmates, remember him, for his passion when he was playing the piano. I miss him!
