Who do you think was the most talented artist to die young, and what do you thin!

Question: I'd say Jimi Hendrix, easily. He was only known from '66-'70, and he's still considered the greatest guitarist of all time. He died when he was 27.

I can't say he'd continue to be as influencial as he started, but I can see him making music still to this day if he were alive. He could've made a pretty big difference if he hadn't died so young...

You?

I'd agree with Jimi Hendrix, but I'd also say Layne Staley. He died at 34 years old, and his music continues to resonate with generations of music fans. I believe that if Layne had gotten control of his addictions, he could have continued to make amazing music, and would continue to for years!
I think Kurt Cobain (and I know I'll get crap for this) would have fell into the "where are they now" file by now. His star would have burned out by now, for sure.

Also, Cliff Burton. Metallica would have styed true to the course and delivered quality music for years if Cliff had his hands in it. Unfortunately, he died young as well, and his probably rolling over in his grave every time the band plays a new song...

(edit)
Jesus... I can't believe I forgot Buddy Holly! He's not considered on the same level as Elvis or Johnny Cash simply because he wasn't alive long enough. Imagine the things he could have done...

Marvin Gaye! He was so smooth!

There are alot of greats but I would have to say Richie Valenz, don't know if I spelled that right.

Oh yeah, Hendrix for sure. I used to hear in the late 70's, that if he were still around he'd be into jazz. If that would have been, then I too, would be into jazz. If not, could you imagine Hendrix and Led Zeppelin in the 70's, wow!
There are other great guitarist's out there, but none other like Jimi.
I think That he even influenced, Page, Beck, and Clapton to a certain degree. I mean all those three were out there before Jimi, but there sound changed dramatically when Jimi came out.
Great question.

Layne Staley (though he died somewhere after the great moments of his career)
Kurt Cobain, Cliff Burton, Jimi Hendrix died really young and in the best peroid of their art...

John Lennon didn't die really young, but he was also right in the middle of his solo-career

Randy Rhodes was a terrible loss. He only had two albums under his belt and was on his way to steal Eddie Van Halen's crown.

BRIAN JONES – ROLLING STONES
( Feb, 28th, - 1942 - July, 3rd, 1969)
Jim Morrison - THE DOORS (DEC,8TH,1943- JULY.3RD 1971)

Kurt Cobain –NIRVANA ( FEB,20,1967- APR,5TH.1994)
Nick Drake(JUN,19.1948-NOV,25,1974)
Chris Bell -BIG STAR(1951-1978)

Jimi Hendrix for sure, he didn't have enough time on this earth, I mean, look at what he accomplished in just the short time he was here. He is a legend and it's undeniable.

Jim Morrison too, if he had pulled himself out of his fat-heroin addict phase I wonder what he could have come up with musically.

Keith Moon, best drummer of all time and he died at 32, right after the Who released an album that seemed like the start of something big. Huge shame.

And even though he died in 2006, he died then as Roger Keith Barrett, "Syd" Barrett died in 1971. If he had never gone off the wall, what could he have done?
