Isnt a mixtape supposed to be like a preview of an album well why do so many art!

I don't know for sure but here's my hypothesis.
An album is put out by the record companies. They are very strict each and every part of the album and it's contents because this it's their money that is being spent. They decide what the album will be. The artist has to give them what THEY want on the album. A mixtape is an artists chance to put what they want out. It's all them and the DJ. The execs don't have to approve the content. Therefore it stays "hood", which is what the mixtapes consumers want.

not too sure, but i'm going to guess that it's all about money.
When they do mixtapes, alot of the time , they spit on tracks that aren't theirs (they rap over a beat that belongs to someone else).. so they aren't really spending money on production like they would when they make a REAL album and have to PAY for beats.. so I'm assuming that if they make HOT mixtapes and their albums don't meet the same standards it's because their label isn't trying to put out that money for production.
Mixtapes were started as a way to break new songs, and artists that weren't getting any play on the radio.
It has evolved into something else. Artists are saying things, and freestyling in ways that their labels wouldn't allow them to on an album.
Mixtapes are also cheaper.
Case in point.. Lloyd Banks has made some classic mixtapes, and freestyles on those mixtapes.
However, both of his major label releases have been garbage. Take a poll, people will agree...
If we are talking about the game here...then he does it cuz he does not give a **** is one. But he did alot on dissing 50 as well. and also it costs almost no money if they already have their own recording studio. And a rapper just cant say anything on a major release cd cuz the record label will be shunned if they let a rapper say something like white power nazi kill jews or **** like that u know.
