  • Pearl Jam!!

    Pearl Jam

    A I C
    all other answers are WRONG

Nirvana followed by Pearl Jam then Smashing Pumpkins

    Nirvana!

All are great, all are my favorites. But my choice is Pearl Jam. It's obvious, as you can see.

EDIT: Sorry, I haven't read the other detail. For me, Pearl Jam is just my personal preference. But if you are talking of Kings of Grunge... Alice in Chains Rule!!! Lane Staley is the epitome of grunge!!!

    Nirvannnnna!
    But my fave was GARBAGE!!!

i think probably between Pearl Jam and Nirvana based on what I remember what was the most popular but I love Chris Cornell and that "black hole sun" was off da hook!

definitely NIRVANA! no doubt to this

    Alice in Chains

    Nirvana. with out a doubt!!

I love all these bands.... I'm not picking a winner.

Without a doubt, Alice in Chains. RIP Layne Staley.

    Alice in Chains you fairy.

    Smashing Pumpkins pppft.

    Its all about Alice!!!

    Nirvana invented grunge!!!

Nirvana and Alice in Chains are very close, but I would probably edge towards Nirvana. The other three are in the backfield.

    i say PJ

Pearl Jam are still knocking out some great songs..."Reign O'er Love" AMAZING!!! ( From the soundtrack Reign Over Me)
Second I would say Alice in Chains... how can you fault the songs "Would?" "Bother" "Dig a Hole" and many many many many more
Soundgarden where OK as a band but Chris Cornell is an amazing singer and shines in Audioslave

Nirvana killed proper rock music with there later stuff... inutero and Nevermind lending a hand to other crap that came out in the mid nineties and Smashing Pumpkins should of been called Pulling Teeth cos thats what they made you do when listening to their tripe!

    Nirvana..invented grunge

well, without Nirvana I think grunge would have been a dying art form. Kurt Cobain caught everyones attention. However, Alice In Chains holds a special place for me. So I would say it was a toss up between the two :)

Nirvana didn't invent grunge!! They just showed the mass public that it existed

    Temple of the Dog
    -> Pearl Jam & Soundgarden

btw: Nirvana did not "invent" Grunge; they made it popular, brought it to the charts, but Grunge existed before Nirvana

    Either Pearl Jam or Soundgarden

Well, the father of Grunge is Neil Young!

Soundgarden is my favorite Grunge band from the 90's.

I wouldn't consider the Smashing Pumpkins a Grunge band at all, they are more alternative rock.

Without a doubt, Alice in Chains, although they were so much more complex than regular grunge. They actually knew how to play. like Soundgarden, they happened to break big, from Seattle, during a time when everyone was playing rotten guitar tones and wearing flannel: they both got lumped into a subgenre they didn't really belong in.
Soundgarden is right up there as well. Especially if you look at their first 2 full-length albums, Louder Than Love and Ultramega OK. Not in the same vein as AIC, more experimental out-there sh*t. Definitely not grunge.
