Was bethoven black?!

Question: Many blacks are arguing that the genius beethoven was black and many whites are arguing he was white. Some paintings shows him as pure white while others depict him to have a swarthty complextion. Without any white person or black being racist, can someone provide some historical truth on this for me?

diamonds, this is a question I have a very low personal interest in, whatever the skin color B. is a milestone in the culture of mankind. I sincerely would like not to see this question any longer, not because I find it silly, but because it has returned over and over: it is so easy to search through previous answers and all the possible aspects have been fully scrutinized to saturation: he was possibly adopted, he was born in Africa or in the Dutch Antilles, he was scottish, he was simply very dark skinned like some germans are for normal genetic differentiation, he spent part of his life in a house in Vienna Black Spaniards' street, etc.
Try to think it over: if he was black, that would be, in those times, a very awkward fact and it would surely have been traded over by the chronicles and willed to posterity, and it wasn't. The literature is full of memories of egregious people who met him, we have descriptions, someone took the trouble even to paint his piano with a night-pot below it, B.'s life was a public domain. Nobody said he was black.
Now, the portraits; see for yourself in the link. My assumption is, it's not only color, it's the overall figure: nose, lips, hair, that should have that 'very special' air, don't you agree ? And some of the portraits show him as an even whiter person than average.
My conclusion is he was 'technically white'; the fact he could have black ancestors is possible as it is in my case, in yours or whatever. If it was his great-grandpa or just his daddy doesn't mean much. And the overall point doesn't mean anything.

Nope

beethoven was a white german

No he was german and he was white hunny !!!

He was the first rapper. Had "beef" with the other black genius composer Mozart. Suppose it is the same people who claim the early Greeks were black too.

Those who think he is kidding, he is not. Some afrocentrists make any claims to people being tan or swarthy automatically makes the person black. Gotta love black history month.

The portrait by Steiler should erase any confusion. It was painted in his lifetime.

I can see how you might think that. You're confusing racial heritage with degenerative hearing loss. Easy mistake to make.

no

There actually isn't any factual evidence what his ethnic heritage was, thats why its become an open debate in recent years.
Some scholars from the school of thought 'post-colonial studies' have claimed that he was infact from sierra leone and was brought over in the first colonisation to germany, others have suggested he was the son of a african slave and an aryan lord, who was born so fair skinned he could be socially 'passed off' as ayran.
This is all theory, theres no way of finding an accurate answer to this with sources so much in flux with each other.

he was a white man.maybe black inside but i dont know

I read someplace that his family was Scottish from a few generations back, so like most Scottish people, Beethoven was a shade darker than most Germans.

No, he was white german; but he is surely over-rated.

He was a god-damn cracker.

There is no evidence to support such an assertion, DNA or written. It is an idea that has no merit and does not really have any significance. A similar argument (or statement) can be made for anyone who is not as white as a bottle of milk.
Historical evidence suggests Beethoven was from Dutch origin (other than German).
