What was your least favourite thing thing about 80's pop music?!

Question: I've already asked about the 70's music so now I am asking about 80's music....Stupid haircuts and the fashion of the day make me laugh loads when I look back at it, so what made the rest of us laugh....Spandau Ballet's "hairstyles"..Duran Durans fashions, perhaps..?
Thanks in advance as usual..

You really hit a nerve with this one.
I couldn't stand Boy George, I was glad to that disco was on it's way out, but some of the other crap that came out was just as bad.
If you want to talk about hair, look at a picture of the Flock of Seagulls. What were they thinking?

Shakin' Stevens - total waste of time

i think it was that great bloated ox who played the drums for adam and the ants. he just looked so ridiculous

I can't think of any. Pop music was good back then, and the ridiculous fashions complimented it perfectly.

captain keyboards !!!

those guys who played the strap keyboards like guitars

Actually, I LOVE 80's pop music, so I don't have any complaints regarding it.

90's Pop Music. If i had too say 1 those computer film clips that looked so plaid out now.

To be honest I think the 80's was the last decade to put out anything that is worth listening to. Music in the 90's and since the turn of the century has been sh*t

There were loads of really talented acts who never became stars (The Sound, Comsat Angels, Felt...) and loads of completely talentless muppets who became stars in their place (Wham, Bros, Five Star...). Even bands like R.E.M. and Pulp had to wait for the 80s to end before they could become famous.

The videos, especially Duran Duran videos. Too many quick changes to disconnected scenes. You never saw anyone actually making music.

I loved the music, Hair and fashions of the 80's! Going to watch Level 42 this year.......The worst thing for me was when I taped the top 40 and had to keep rewinding the tape to cut out the dj's jibber jabber therefore losing the last 15 seconds of the song.

You have to remember that most of that stupid look was the fashion people in Hollywood that were part of the video team or album cover photographers. Most bands on stage looked totally different and nobody dressed that way in public. I was a rock musician back then and I had that whole grunge thing goin on way before Kurt Cobain. The things I did hate was the introduction of the rap scene, Micheal Jackson, The British Ivasion (new wave) and Glam rock bands like Poison, The Great White etc... Things I did like were bands like early Van Halen, AC\DC, Tom Petty etc. (There actually was some good music to come out of the 80's)

Johnny Marr

When you see a 5 piece band (like Spandau) with 2 guitarists but all you can hear is a synthesiser. Most of they new romantic bands had at least 1 guitarist but it was never plugged in, they just had guitars to make them look like a real band. 80's pop music was abysmal.

lammy, that's my youth yer talking aboot there!

what was shite about the eighties was buck fizz, the thompson twins (actually triplets), howard jones, black lace, wham, shaky, jennifer rush, new romance, mike read, frankie says, miming, smash hits, live aid, christmas number ones, foreigner, chicago, power ballads, power dressing, power lunches...

don't forget though, we had the smiths, echo and the bunnymen, jesus and mary chain, the cure, the cult, john peel, rubiks cubes, inner city riots, dundee united, iron maiden, miners strike, cnd and depeche mode.

I was all done on programmable keyboards. These were in their infancy then and I think it came over in the music.
Also, guitars went right out of fashion which I hated.
Finally, the dancing – it always looked their feet were nailed to the floor!

the rise of effeminate clothes and lifestyles for men, gay pride etc.

Not natural!

those guitars that looked like pianos. and synthesized drums. synthesizers, in and of themselves. i really loved the movie "music and lyrics" because it gave a really good recap of 80's music and videos......so funny! the songs were catchy and still are, but some of them leave me wondering why i haven't made millions writing songs better than the ones that used to be on the radio.....
