I will try to give a basic break down of chord construction. They will all be based aroung the tonic C and you will have to transpose as needed.

There are four basic triads
Major: C E G (C)
minor: C Eb G (Cm)
Augmented: C E G# (C+ or Caug)
Diminished: C Eb Gb (Cdim)

Seventh chords are the combination of the four triads with one of the two (major and minor) sevenths added
Cmaj7 (also written as C "triangle" 7): C E G B
C7 (or C dominant 7) C E G Bb
Cm7: C Eb G Bb
Cm/maj7 (not a common chord) C Eb G B
C+7: C E G Bb
C1/2dim7: C Eb Gb Bb
Cdim7: C Eb Gb Bbb (enharmonic with A)

ninths are seventh chords with the addition of the "ninth" scale degree, or the 2nd scale degree in ahigher octave.

C9: C E G Bb D
Cmaj9: C E G B D
(you get the idea)

Altered ninths are usually written in the chord name ...
C7#9: C E G Bb D#
C7b9: C E G Bb Db
etc.

"added" ninths are usually a ninth without the presence of the seventh:
C E G D

This is different from a suspended second in that a second is usually without the presence of a seventh OR a third: C D G, the suspension implies that the "D" will resolve to an "E" - that is a suspended note, likely held over from the previous chord.

All this goes for 11th and 13ths as well.

There are many great chord progressions found in jazz standards. You may want to try a jazz 12 bar blues progression. Try this (in F):

F7 - Bb7 - F7 - F7
Bb7 - Bdim - F7 E7#9 - Eb7 D7#9
Gmin7 - C7 - F7 - Gmin7 C7

The add in Cadd7 is telling you to add a 7th scale degree to your chord. In the key of C, the major 7th would be the note B. The flat seventh would be Bb. When seeing that I would add the flat seventh. Usually it just says C7.
