becuase of all he accomplished; the snitch part of him is looked down upon, but how successful he was; one of the first if not the first man to go to asia and get his product pure;

Well, I don't think the album AMERICAN GANGSTER was dedicated to him.. I;m pretty sure that when Jay got to preview the movie, he rlated so well with the story line and Frank Lucas' "career" and business mind that it inspired him and brought him back, creatively, to a place he hadn't really been since his earlier years in the rap game.

Good question Eason. I was wondering this myself when American Gangster (the CD, I mean) came out. Don't get me wrong, I love the album, but Frank Lucas didn't come across - either in the movie or anyhting I've read about - as a guy with any honour whatsoever.

I do understand where u are coming from though. But Jay is letting u no, Frank is a cool dude (or however u want to perceive it), but he's still a snitch as s *****!
I have said it before and will say it again , the black culture is the only culture that believes in that street code Bull$hit, if you get jammed up, see someone lose there life over BS, or just know it's the right thing to do, by all means you must do what's necessary. In my opinion it's takes a bigger person to tell than, to sit quietly, think about it, why don't we as a people " snitch" is it because we're afraid of the outcome or retaliating from telling? We can all guess as to What Frank Lucas did or didn't do...Who to believe or who not to.....there are probably a good number of versions as to what and how it happened. Was he right in snitching? No, Would you do it in his situation? who knows....People say what they wouldn't do until they are facing not seeing their wives, husbands and children without being behind bars for the rest of their lives.
I don't consider myself a snitch by far, but under a few circumstances I could see myself having to become one.
Everyone needs to be honest about that...Just like they say everyone has a price, I think under the right conditions one will turn snitch.

For the record, there were a number of old school cats who ratted once they got pinched and faced big time.
If they were legendary on the streets before then, a lot of followers and imitators tend to idolize them for that.
They consider it respecting the hustle, but, as you pointed out, they downplay the treachery at the end.
