Why is Progressive Rock not appreciated by more people?!

Question: One big reason - long songs. Most people can't get really attached to a song unless they hear it several times. It takes a lot of time investment to get familiar with them, and most radio stations can't afford to be playing them on the radio much.

Also, let's face it - great progressive rock is among the best music out there, but when it's bad, it can be really pretentious and inaccessible (and they're long songs, so a lot of time can be wasted listening to bad music - if you don't like it the first time you hear it, it's probably just easier to find something else).

Because they can't realize the brilliance of it. There's nothing I enjoy more than kicking back and listening to some Pink Floyd, King Crimson, or Ayreon.

who knows? but if rush and yes arent appreciated than people are just gonna miss out on some incredible music/musicians.

Progressive rock is all about exploring the boundaries of musical expression and creativity. Rock, in general, is about taking risks, musically speaking.

On the other hand, pop music is about playing it safe, about pandering to commercial intersts. Pop music deals with whatever will make a buck.

i dunno, but i cant live without rush, pink floyd, or triumph on my ipod, i know that

Because most people just settle for more simple and accesible albums than take a risk by listening to prog rock.
Listening to prog rock is a risk that some people take, because it may not be of the like of that person, so... I think that's my guess on why people don't appreciate prog rock. I appreciate !

because progressive rock music associated with intelligence, creativity, style, and many people preffer much more simplier music unfortunate.

Because more than half of people are stupid and don't know nothing about music. If someone never heard Shine On You Crazy Diamond he should die........just joking:).
Prog Rock is the best!!! Rock on:D

Well, I'll admit that I dig quite a bit of the old school prog stuff myself, I can see how some folks might find the experimental stuff and freeform noodling to be a bit tiresome. It takes a master like ol' Mr. Fripp to pull it off right.
I wouldn't insult anyone's taste for not liking prog stuff. I think it gets as much credit as it warrants. Really, if they played prog rock on the radio half as much as they play more accessible stuff, then it takes away from the esoteric nature and artistic integrity of the genre.

Because most of it is pompous bloated and self-absorbed. Less is sometimes more.

There are some exceptions but not many.

All I know is progressive rock has produced some of the best drummers music has ever known in Bill Bruford (King Crimson, Yes), Andy McCulloch (King Crimson), Michael Giles (King Crimson, many others), Nick Mason (Pink Floyd) and Neil Peart (Rush). So if they can't appreciate phenomenal musicianship, it's their loss.

I grew up on progressive rock as a teenager during the early 70,s bands like yes, emerson lake and palmer ,rush, pinkfloyd

'cause that would require THOUGHT and EFFORT on the part of the masses...
