Italian/Cuban Gangsta's, why do rappers think they're cool?!
Question: Everytime I watch cribs I have to go outside and fire off shots from my gun, I some dumb@$$ with Scareface oil painting, the movie playing, and Scareface 4x Tall tee on. Why is this gangsta, what about Ice Cube in Boyz N the hood, Leon in Colors, Ice-t or Wesley Snipes in New Jack city, hell Lawrence Fishburne in King of New York , why not them? I personally hate Scareface it's to long, I can't relate with the whole Cuban refuge gangsta $hit, don't get me wrong I love BS violence in a movie, but the Godfather is like 4 hrs long and the violence is small in amounts and I can't relate. But all the rappers in the game think this is what gangsta is, do you agree? please give feedback because I'm spending too much money ammo.

Yeah, that is true, i dont really get the whole obsession with Scarface myself...It is a good movie though, but I dont understand why rappers and such all have this copy of this film and posters of it. I think the trend started due to Cribs the show..after a few did it, others probably followed in their steps. Basically they say that Scarface paved the way for films of today. But the films of today dont really compare to that movie fully. So thats a good question.
I don't think rappers think they are cool, you might "think" they are just because they might have some poster of Scareface movie (which by the way was a great movie). You seem like you are stereotyping rappers a bit. Not all of them like the movie and not all sport the gear with Al Pacino on it. Boyz N the Hood was not gangster. Colors was about a cop and his partner...not necessarily about gangsters. New Jack City was about the gangs and drugs in New York...wasn't the made focus on gangster like Scareface was.
So take your butt outside and fire your gun...if that is what makes you happy.

No it didn't go over my head I completely understand what you are saying. It isn't a race issue, if you look at the history of typical gangsters they weren't black. They just had the movie American Gangster which supposedly was about the first black gangster...I am a history channel buff so I would think to some degree I know what I am saying or I wouldn't be voicing my opinion on your question.

scarface was just a really popular movie man. it has nothing to do with being cuban. if they liked the movie, then theyl put up a poster of it
as for the italian gangstas, thats primarily because the italian mob was exposed to be the biggest and most lucrative organized crime organization in the US and therefore became the ultimate gangsta fantasy.
if you want to understand godfather then read the book. a lot of the subtleties are lost on the average viewer who has no knowledge on italian mafia pop culture
and you are stereotyping rappers as glorifying these movies when they may simply just be fans of the movies. ive heard plenty of references in rap to nino brown and boyz n d hood and even that tv show colors, and even Biggie took the moniker Frank White.
