When playing a guitar chord.....?!

Question: do you play all the strings? Because when I looked at this chord chart there were like the strings where u put down on a fret but then the other strings some were diamonds and some were x's. what do the diamonds and x's mean.?

The diamonds are the ones you play. The x's are the ones you don't.

Some chords - like E major (or barre chords starting on the e string) use all six strings.

The rest only use the ones necessary - you will know if you are playing extra strings, because it won't sound good.

Don't hit the strings with x's

No you don't always play every string. The 'x's mean you skip (or mute) that string. Mute the string by touching it lightly, just enough to stop the sound.

The x's mean do not play those strings and I beleive that the diamonds mean play the string open.

yes the X means DONT PLAY
just like u dont play EVERY note on a piano at once!

even three strings can be considered a chord - a triad!

some chords use all the strings, others use some strings while others aren't used (or they are muted)

The x means you don't please that string eg for A major you only play the bottom 5 strings leaving out the top 6th string (Low E string). I have never heard of a diamond shape though

USUALLY

x= string not played (muted or otherwise)If it was to be played muted the "PM"(palm mute) would appear over the correct string and fret.If it was to be played "open" there would be a 0 over corresponding string, indicating open string!! .
diamond= optional note that may make chord sharp,flat,diminished,major,minor...ect.

example...cmajadd4....cmaj would be main chord..the add4 would be opitional note.

the Xs mean you shouldnt hit it. hit all the diamond strings, and the ones your fingers are on

The 'x's indicate that you don't play that string. Not sure about the diamonds though - could mean open string or mute.
