I have a burning desire to sing. Will a singing coach help?!

Question: When I was younger, I was an excellent singer. Later, as I grew up, I became too self-consious and avoided high-notes.

Now, I'm 13, and I actually WANT to sing, yet, when a high note comes, my voice automatically grew accustomed to cracking and sounding bad to avoid it. But it's not just that. My voice is dead, battered and destoryed.

Needless to say, I'm very dissapointed in myself and my voice.

Will a voice coach help with problems like these? If not, what CAN they help with? How can they help me?

First off, because it was already said, please don't make croaking noises, clear your throat, or cough, if you can avoid it. Drink water and vocalize on a tone instead. If there's no tone to the sound, it means the vocal folds are irregularly opening and closing, slamming into each other in the process. This is damaging to your voice.

You will probably never be able to hit those notes well without proper breath support. We have all learned to breathe by moving our shoulders and chests, but singing requires diaphragmatic breathing. Inhale into your stomach, so that you look as fat as possible. Then exhale from your stomach so you look as skinny as possible. More work than necessary occurs in that exercise, but it's roughly the same way you should breathe for singing.

Next, the sound needs to be resonating properly. Try singing while holding your nose. You should feel a buzzing behind your nose. Now try to focus your sound in the same place (without sounding nasal) when you sing normally. This will help the sound to resonate and project. Resonance is the primary source of volume, not air, and quieter singing actually requires more air.

Especially important for high notes is to have your throat as open as possible with as little tension as possible anywhere in your head, shoulders, or upper back. Relax as much as you can.

When you actually try singing the high notes, use as little air as possible. The instinctive tendency is to tighten the vocal folds and use more air, but the vocal folds soon get too tight to produce a good sound, and then either the muscles fail to hold them tight and your voice cracks or the air stops going through. Instead, try to keep everything as loose as possible and use as little air as you can manage. Get used to the fact that high notes will not be as loud or sound as good, at least at first. Even as your high notes become stronger, they will likely continue to sound weak to you. Never try to push or use more air than absolutely necessary, however, especially because it will only make it harder for you to get the next note up.

A voice teacher should be able to provide further assistance with all aspects of voice, including range, volume, and tone quality.

If you want to, sure. but READ THIS ANSWER of mine, because i will give you some tips to helping you get your voice sounding clearer without spending the money.
1. try the musical scale excersize.
2. CONSTANTLY DRINK WATER AT LEAST 8 TIMES DAY.
3. Croak like a frog and cough whenever you feel necessary.
4. EVERYDAY sing a song or scale.
5. Practice "MAS" and "MES" and try to hit a really high note everyday.
6. Then try to do a song with not much tone changing and try to keep it smooth.
7. Try to really find your music genre and sing that only.

I'm 13 too. I'm not a GREAT singer yet, but I started taking voice lessons a few weeks ago and there was a HUGE improvement.
Go for it.
Some are expensive, but totally worth it.

A singing coach will help a whole lot. I have been with a singing coach for three years and I have now been able to reach a high G. I bet a million that a singing coach will help you reach a note that high. They will build confidence and take away that fear of going to high notes
