Are we Hip Hop Hypocrite's?!

Question: I ask this question, because I consider myself to be a backpacker who listen to artist like common, Lupe, Ceelo, Talib, but I listen to artist like these too;

The Game- who raps about gangs, guns, and killing people
T.I.P -who raps about sellin drugs , and killin people
Snoop Dogg ( all time favorite ) who has rapped about killin people, sellin drugs, & Bi$ches

So I ask are there artist that you listen to that you dont agree with their point of view , but still give play too, be honest ?

Plenty. I usually listen to the more conscious or political hip hop, but even within that I don't always agree with everything. Eg: I don't agree with Common's stance on mixed race relationships, but he's still one of my favourite rappers.
And although I don't support what a lot of gangsta rap has to say, there's no WAY I'd be parted with my Straight Outta Compton album!
As long as they have skills and what they have to say is a bit deeper than YOOOUUUUUU!!! then I'll listen.

I dont care if it's hip hop, rap, old school, hyphy, crunk, choped and scewed... I dont really care... I listen to what sounds good and who makes sense!

I just take it as a form of entertainment...I listen to all types of rappers...The all have different lyrical content...But if its good, then its good...I cant expect these entertainers to have the same point of view about life then I do...they rap about things that entertain people...Just cause I wont bust guns or something doesnt mean I cant listen to a rapper that raps about it...

Sure... Plenty of them. But that doesn't mean that I can't enjoy the music. Hell, some of my friends live lives that I don't agree with... But it doesn't make me a hypocrite because I am friends with them.

What would make me a hypocrite though about listening to that type of music was if I talked about how I can't stand them and how they are bringing us or the rap game down then turned around and was playing their music. But, never once have I said such a thing.

Just because I don't agree with it, doesn't mean I can't enjoy it. I'll just continue living my life the way I see fit.

We are human....therefore we contradict ourselves in every aspect in life.....however...your explanation...is just you enjoying MUSIC....

I too have contemplated this question, and I am guilty of the same thing, However I am not completely opposed to their points of view. When some of these artists rap about gangsta sh*t. Sometimes it is because they went through some gangsta sh*t. I have been through some violent experiences in my life and feel I can relate to some of these songs. And on the same note, sometimes a good song is a good song even if you don't completely agree with the lyrics.

I do listen to them but its not being a hypocrite unless you go out, saying that the things Snoop Dogg and others talk about are not supposed to be said. Are you a hypocrite if you watch a Disney Movie than go and turn on Boyz In The Hood?

It's just music, it's not hypocritical to like certain artists or subjects. I listen to Snoop, NWA, Bone Thugs, etc. but then again I also listen to Lupe, Talib Kweli, Mos Def, & Common.

A good example of hypocrisy is saying you hate the Crank dat song, but then you always do the dance.

I like Garage, Rap too some Rock shlt, some Concious some Hold Down the Block shlt, no Top of the Pops shlt.....

No. Good question though, but no.

You see, just because you listen to someone's music, doesn't mean that you have to agree with everything they say. You don't have to follow their agenda.

Hence, the reason why I listen to rappers is because of their skill. Then I take a look at what their message is.

Not only that, just because you're a backpacker, doesn't give you exclusive "divinity" right that makes you some sort of innocent person. Some people act like Talib Kweli never talks about girls.
