Why do so many people talk only about "bands"?!

Question: People talk about bands as if only bands make music; actually, there have always been a lot of solo artists that make music....Bob Dylan, Joni Mitchell, Cat Stevens, James Taylor, etc. etc. Why do people today only seem to want to talk about bands?

all these guys u mention started out with a band.. they just ended up becoming more famous than the rest of their band members.. and anyways, they do have people playing for them in the background.. its not like they are 'solo' artists..

because most good and popuplar songs come from bands nowdays.

omg. i think i should be asking the same question!! i hate it when people talk about bands.. well not really but i feel a little out of place because i do listen to bands... but im not a huge fanatic about it... im kinda just neutral about music.

Music is life. period.

edit: yeah, I'm not really sure either...but you don't really never find a solo artist who does emo or screamo.

I hate to burst your bubble but many solo artists have played with bands. Just because their is a guy or girl as the lead singer, doesn't mean that there is no one in the backround playing bass, guitar, drums, backing vocals.

It's basically the same thing, only some people want more recognition and attention if they are the sole name headlinibg

I just hate how loosely the term "artist" is thrown around,
so band is just easy to write I guess,
Gore has it right also

because it's harder to create a good music/song in a band rather than doing it alone....

Because bands accumulate more attention, have more hot guys and can make more, complicated, music with more than one person.
IDK if this makes sense.

Teamwork= more successful! Cooperation=interesting

Dunno, but based on the artists you mentioned, check out Ryan Adams (used to play with Whiskeytown)
He's the Johnny Cash of this generation.
Also look into Chuck Ragan (formerly of Hot Water Music)
and Jesse Malin (former band: D*Generation)
