Tom Petty at half time.....?!

Question: Do you agree or disagree that Tom Petty gave the most boring half time performance EVER!

Answers: Do you agree or disagree that Tom Petty gave the most boring half time performance EVER!

you got my vote for "Boring".

At least his boob didn't fall out!

Why do you think good music has to be boring?
Just because some half dressed chicks weren't on stage shaking their behinds and pawing all over each other, doesn't mean Tom Petty's performance was boring.
It's just not what you need to be stimulated, apparently.
But....he has outlasted a lot of the musicians that are out today when they done and gone. Let me think of a couple, uh, Brittney Spears is a has been at what 24?
Tom ranks up there with the old timers who STARTED rock and roll.

Yeah, it was pretty boring (and I say this as a Petty fan). He sang good songs, but each of them was over 20 years old. And he couldn't hit the high notes. He wasn't awful, but he didn't take any risks and gave us absolutely zero surprises.

For me, the best part was Mike Campbell's guitar solo at the end.

You're a sexist jerk. If all you care about are half-naked girls, then you are a disgrace to humanity.

No, I thought it was the best half-time show I've ever seen actually.

I guess it's because some people find concerts that don't include lots of special effects and dancers to be boring. I thought it was a good, straightforward performance. Nobody got caught lip synching nor did anybody's breast get uncovered. What amazed me was that the group performed mostly songs from Tom's solo project in the late 1980s. At the time, it was rumored that he was leaving The Heartbreakers but it turned out that he didn't. I guess I'm showing my age because I actually enjoy good performances that don't include a flashy stage show and gyrating half naked female dancers.

I would say he wasn't feeling totally well. He stayed awfully close to the mic and wasn't his usual front of the stage, connect with the audience self. His voice was strong, I thought.

I loved it. I like his music, much better than some of the other performances they've had. Prince? Paul McCartney? Justin Bloody Timberlake? Uh, they bored me to death.

at 1st i thought it was boring
but then it spiced up.
overall, it was pretty good!

Well, Tom Petty's never tried to be Gene Simmons (and boy am I glad !). I enjoyed it, but YMMV.

I thought he did okay. His voice wasn't the best on the first two songs, but it got better. I thought he was much better than the Rolling Stones were two years ago. I like the Rolling Stones, but they aren't nearly what they used to be.

I saw Tom Petty in Cincinnati two years ago and he sounded great. I went mainly to see the Black Crowes, but Petty put on a good show.

If they are going to continue bringing out acts that are 20-30 years past their prime, I'd like to see Led Zeppelin do the halftime show next year. I heard clips of their reunion concert in London in December and they sounded great. There is a possibility they will do a world tour later this year. If not Zeppelin, I'd like to see Van Halen.

No it was cool. It was about *music* and *talent*, not ***-shaking, thank-god-for-the-umpteen-producers bullshit!!!

And I'm freee...freee faalllin'...

I agree! It was a pathetic performance, and yes, i was at one time a petty fan - the thing is tho, i can appreciate him one song at a time, but to have to suffer through a couple of really old songs that most superbowl fans wont even recognize as having once been hits was a pathetic attempt by the superbowl commision (or whoever) to try to keep the show 'clean'. There are so many other ways they could have accomplished this.

I didn't think it was boring, the game was worse until the last 2 minutes.

i thought he was very good actually, it's clear his voice was not the same, especially on i won't back down and runnin' down a dream, but he proved he could still climb the ladder on american girl and free fallin'

the fact is, he's well into his 50s now, and people like that generally give fairly conservative performances, exactly what the nfl wants after the whole janet jackson thing a few years back

and i think since i've been here a while people who are on r&p regularly know that i am a huge rolling stones fan, and they put out perhaps the worst 15 minutes of live music ever at their halftime show a couple years ago

i didn't think it was that bad. it was nothing mind blowing but it was cool. it was better than Prince doing the foo fighters (cause seriously, what was up with that?)

but yeah, i thought it was pretty good.

Tom Petty has never been flashy. Just good rock and roll. He allows his good songs to be the point of the show. Compared to the awesome halftime show by Prince last year, Tom Petty's performance was boring. Prince managed to play 6 songs, including killer covers of Hendrix and The Foo Fighters. His guitar solos, especially during Purple Rain, were goosebump provoking.
