Are there any real orchestra musicians out there?!

Question: What instrument do you play, and what orchestra are you in? This is something I want to do so badly, and I want to know all I can. I play the oboe, and I love it sooooo much!! I'm not bad either. Do you have a favorite piece you play? I'm just curious...

Thanks!

(I like Ravel and Stravinsky)

i play as a first violin with the London Symphony Orchestra. it is a lot of fun, but VERY VERY hard work. to play professionally you need to find out what you need to get to music college. i would also recomend learning a second instrument or singing; preferably piano as that will aide you during composition studies at universtity/conservotoire. i myself graduated from the Royal College of Music in London, and i palyed violin and viola, and also conducted.

as for fave peice i love to play tchikovsky violin concerto (third movement) or mendlesshon violin concerto. and if not those then lark ascending by vaughn williams

if you need any help, i'm always willing to give adviced to aspiring classical musicians

Yes, I play the Viola, my favorite piece is Brandenberg Concerto or Cimmaron.

Okay...right now I'm just in my school's concert band...but this summer I will be joining an orchestra at a college. I play 9 instruments! My main instrument is euphonium. It's weird because the orchestra I'm going to allows euphonium players and everything an orchestra consists of. Anyway, my best insruements are in order from best played, to worst played. Euphonium, trombone, tuba, trumpet, piano, alto saxophone, flute, harmonica, and gutiar. I am, however, learning french horn at the moment. My favorite piece is actualy for wind band called "First Suite in Eb: Chaconne (1909)" to be exact. It has many low brass features plus other features from all the common instruments whom always seem to have the melody like flutes, trumpets, etc. Oboe is neat too though.... Oh and I also really like Lincolnshire Posy's movements 2 and 6!

I'm not a musician, but my church has a number of professional musicians mainly from Korea (we're in London). One plays in the Philharmonia Orchestra, which is based in London, his wife teaches piano, and we have other teachers in the congregation, and John Barnard, the composer of the tune for Christ Triumphant. If you want a professional career, go for it!
