Sax to a string?!


Question: hi i want to dubble up on intruments i play the alto saxophone now and i want to play a string intrument which would be the best choice for me?

violin I think. I play the alto and tenor sax but if you've learned bass and/or alto clef, you could do any string instrument. Personally, I would pick the violin. =]

Why not try to double on another single reed instrument? It's becoming standard for saxophonists to play clarinet and vice versa. It will be an easy transition.

You might find the violin quite difficult. I do not recommend the string instruments to people unless they are VERY keen to play that instrument.
If you just want to double on an instrument than pick clarinet, flute , cornet etc.

You will be quite shocked at how much work is involved in just getting a decent sound out of a violin. There is a lot more to playing it than just reading music as some people seem to think.
