I honestly think it's because they think it's cool. It's so dumb. I don't see how they can listen to that crap. I don't understand one word of it. I'd like to know also.

I like hardcore but I also like listening to music w/o giving me a headache. I can usually hear the words that are said, and I'm not a big fan of distortion.
It depends on the band. There's a few bands that are exactly what you describe, but even more "mainstream" rock bands have often been accused of having that sound. Some bands can do it better than others and some kids latch on to the power or feel of it and angst that expressed the changes they are going through as humans..
