CCR Lyrics--PROUD MARY, what exactly is he saying??!

Question: I am trying to karaoke record John Fogerty's version of Proud Mary...Now, I know that that he liked to pronounce words in the VOWEL, but in the second and third chorus repeats it does NOT sound like he is saying "Big wheel keep on TURNIN'...Proud Mary keep on BURNIN'" at all...more like TWOILIN' and BOILIN'....am I nuts?? I also know that Fogerty's version in the second verse is "Cleaned a lot of plates in Memphis, pumped a lot of PAIN down in New Orleans", where The Turners' version says 'TANE...just a fact I felt like pointing out. Can anyone help me with the turnin' and burnin' OR twoilin' and boilin'???

He's saying turnin' just like every other version. You're not crazy though. He's from the south and has a cajun accent. That is why is sounds so different. Listen to Aerosmith's "Same old song, same old dance." You can definetly tell Steven Tyler's from Boston.

mary it too proud to be told what to do, so she keep rolling like a big wheel turning and rolling, rolling, rolling like a river

Here are the lyrics to Creddence Clearwater's version:

Left a good job in the city,
Workin for the man evry night and day,
And I never lost one minute of sleepin,
Worryin bout the way things might have been.

Chorus:
Big wheel keep on turnin,
Proud mary keep on burnin,
Rollin, rollin, rollin on the river.

Cleaned a lot of plates in memphis,
Pumped a lot of pain down in new orleans,
But I never saw the good side of the city,
til I hitched a ride on a river boat queen.

Chorus

Rollin, rollin, rollin on the river.

If you come down to the river,
Bet you gonna find some people who live.
You dont have to worry cause you have no money,
People on the river are happy to give.

Chorus

Rollin, rollin, rollin on the river.
Rollin, rollin, rollin on the river.
Rollin, rollin, rollin on the river.

Here are Tina Turners:
Y know, every now and then
I think you might like to hear something from us
Nice and easy
But theres just one thing
You see we never ever do nothing
Nice and easy
We always do it nice and rough
So were gonna take the beginning of this song
And do it easy
Then were gonna do the finish rough
This is the way we do proud mary

And were rolling, rolling, rolling on the river
Listen to the story

I left a good job in the city
Working for the man every night and day
And I never lost one minute of sleeping
Worrying bout the way things might have been

Big wheel keep on turning
Proud mary keep on burning
And were rolling, rolling
Rolling on the river

Cleaned a lot of plates in memphis
Pumped a lot of tane down in new orleans
But I never saw the good side of the city
Till I hitched a ride on a riverboat queen

Big wheel keep on turning
Proud mary keep on burning
And were rolling, rolling
Rolling on the river

If you come down to the river
I bet you gonna find some people who live
You dont have to worry if you got no money
People on the river are happy to give

it's more like toinin and boinin

(J. Fogerty)

Left a good job in the city,
Workin' for the man ev'ry night and day,
And I never lost one minute of sleepin',
Worryin' 'bout the way things might have been.
Chorus:
Big wheel keep on turnin',
Proud Mary keep on burnin',
Rollin', rollin', rollin' on the river.

Cleaned a lot of plates in Memphis,
Pumped a lot of pain down in New Orleans,
But I never saw the good side of the city,
'Til I hitched a ride on a river boat queen.

Chorus

Rollin', rollin', rollin' on the river.

If you come down to the river,
Bet you gonna find some people who live.
You don't have to worry 'cause you have no money,
People on the river are happy to give.

Chorus

Rollin', rollin', rollin' on the river.
Rollin', rollin', rollin' on the river.
Rollin', rollin', rollin' on the river.
