Why cant you here bass from a song through a phone?!

You can plug headphones into your phone. Try getting some studio headphones, which are big, but give amazing sound. They can cost anywhere from 20-2000 dollars.

You have to have a decently big speaker to reproduce bass.
Unfortunately it would be counterproductive to carry around a subwoofer cabinet for your phone.
Some headphones are better than others for bass.
Could be hearing damage -- high and low start to fade first.
