What bands do you think sound better live than they do recorded?!

Question: I don't know about being better, but I know some that are just absolutely amazing live. Tesla, Aerosmith, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, The Black Crowes, Oasis, The Eagles, and my husband's band. They're awesome live, their recordings just don't do them justice.

Family force 5, great both at shows and recorded, but the live show is so energetic you cant help but just feel euphoric

red hot chili peppers are awesome live...hope to c them live some day =)

Concrete Blonde/Rolling Stones!

The Grateful Dead - their studio albums were okay, but as the saying went, "there is NOTHING like a Grateful Dead show".
Barenaked Ladies - my son loved them so I always heard him playing their music around the house. Not bad, not spectacular. Then we saw them live and they put on such an energetic and entertaining show I had to see them a second time. (This was the Stunt tour, then the Maroon tour)

Cynic. Without a doubt.

[Edit] I'd bet whoever "thumbed down" my musical taste never even heard of Cynic. But that's ok.

Grateful Dead
Rolling Stones
Bruce Springstein
YES
John Mayer
Jackson Brown (One of the best rock and rollers around.)
Jimmy Buffet

tool
attack in black
U2 (you should see their light shows...man)
i dunno thats all that come to mind so far

ohhh and i forgot, rage against the machine!!!

Danzig

You might note the majority of the bands listed are from the "classic rock" genre than "alternative rock", rap or "new country"---and for very good reason!!

These bands often have the same recording studio engineers follow them on the concert circuit and/or have concert sound engineers follow pretty well close the same sound settings as was put in the recording studio for that band. Albeit true: live generally sounds different than "canned' in the studio, some bands live come pretty darn close to capturing the studio quality out there live.

The Eagles, Rolling Stones, Rush, Cheap Trick, Kansas and Boston (before Delp's tragic suicide)--all made impressive efforts at aiming for near studio quality live onstage.

And the bottom line on why comes down to this: Pride in the band's sound---something today's "alternative rock", rap and "new country" acts don't seem to give much care about.

And for THESE acts it gets even simpler: If their studio recorded CD sounds crappy, then think how much worse (and yes, it happens all too much) their concert sound is going to be?

And for my hard earned money, it's best to sit out, wait and hope these "new sound" bands clear their fogged heads and get their acts together, something I hold doubts will happen anytime soon.

I think METALLICA !!!!
They are awesome.. check out the S&M CD and DVD.

Dream Theater

Velvet Revolver

matchbox twenty

Chiodos

Lydia certainly sounds heavier live than they do on the cd.
I love both either way.

a perfect circle.

Madina Lake!!!!!! and Linkin Park

well, practically almost all bands are better live. nobody wants a "studio" band.
