I feel like a idiot asking this...but..what is the 'hook' in a song?!

Question: I should know this but I don't lol. Sad, but true.

Answers: I should know this but I don't lol. Sad, but true.

The little bit that makes everyone remember it, usually part of the chorus, like in phil collins - in the air tonight, its the big drum fill. it can be on any instrument though. like if a guitarist does something fancy at the end of a bar, that could be the hook.

isn't the like the intro, the part that pulls you into the song?

It's the memorable part of the song, often the chorus, the part that "hooks" you... and makes you remember the song, possibly sing it to yourself, and hopefully want to hear it again.

It's the cool sounding chord combinations.

The part you still whistle after the song is over.

It's the part that hooks you in basically. It's the part that you remember, so that you want to hear it again.

A chorus could be the hook, like Aerosmith's Dream On or Sammy Hagar's I Can't Drive 55. But of those songs choruses grab your ear and make the song memorable. That is the goal of the hook. Of course, they could also be on any instrument. A riff could be a hook, in some cases, like many riffs by AC/DC. They are memorable and they keep you listening.

A "hook" is what they call they chorus in a rap song.

a hook in a song is something that will catch you and keep you coming back... usually vocal in the chorus or bridge of the song .. however some guitar riffs have the potential to hook you to them also...

Not a stupid question. The hook is the part of the chorus in the song that sticks in your head. You know what I mean?
