Did it make you sick to hear about someone raping a girl while singing "Pol!

Question: I read on Wikipedia that this happened in the early ninetys. How did you feel when you first heard it? Can anyone tell me what it was like around that time in music?

Yeah that was pretty F-ed up.

That really had an impact on Kurt Cobain when he heard about it.

In the liner notes to Nirvana's 1992 compilation Incesticide, Cobain expressed distain for an incident which occurred after the song's release on Nevermind. "Last year, a girl was raped by two wastes of sperm and eggs while they sang the lyrics to our song 'Polly,'" he wrote. "I have a hard time carrying on knowing there are plankton like that in our audience."

Kurt made mention of this in the liner notes of "Incesticide." It's pretty appualing, the fact that a girl was raped at all. But I'm confused as to why someone would sing while raping somebody, especially "Polly" of all songs.

EDIT: How did I get a thumbs down on this? Is somebody in here pro-rape?

love that songg
i think it's great that the band made such
a brutal, up front statement.
and as far as what it was like that time in music,
you'll have to look elsewhere
because i was only a toddler
:)

Kurt wrote the song about a girl who was raped not that someone was singing Polly while raping someone

A girl met a guy at a punk show(not a nirvana show)...she was then abducted by the guy and tortured and raped for days, the only way she survived was to pretend like she liked the guy. The notion of having to pretend to like someone who was toruring and raping you struck a chord with Kurt so he wrote a song about it.
