Can someone explain the song Just a Dream by Carrie Underwood?!

Question: In the first verse is the girl going to get married or something?

Answers: In the first verse is the girl going to get married or something?

It sounds like the girl is engaged to a soldier who dies during his latest deployment. I think she wears the wedding dress to the memorial service. She tries to make herself believe he is alive, though she knows he isn't. When I first heard the song, I thought she was going to the service to vow not to love anyone else, because she brings the letters. That's just what I make of the song.

they play it on the radio.
youre not supposed to understand the lyrics.
go find yourself an independent band on the net.

It was two weeks after the day she turned eighteen
All dressed in white
Going to the church that night
She had his box of letters in the passenger seat
Sixpence in a shoe, something barrowed, something blue
And when the church doors opened up wide
She put her veil down
Trying to hide the tears
Oh she just couldn't believe it
She heard trumpets from the military band
And the flowers fell out of her hand

Sounds like she was going to get married and before he could get back from his latest deployment he was killed. Perhaps she wore the dress to the funeral?

she wasn't getting married.
i believe she didn't want to believe that her soldier/lover passed away, but he did,
and so when she got to the church,
she pulled down her veil to hide her tears.

Not quite.... In the first verse, she's getting married before her fiance has to leave to go to war. "Everybody's saying 'he's not coming home now'", etc
In the second verse, he dies and she's at the funeral.
I love the song. So sad and her vocals are amazing! Here are the complete lyrics:
It was two weeks after the day she turned 18
All dressed in white, going to the church that night
She had his box of letters in the passenger seat
Sixpence in her shoe
Something borrowed, something blue
And when the church doors opened up wide
She put her veil down trying to hide the tears
Oh she just couldn’t believe it
She heard the trumpets from the military band
And the flowers fell out of her hands

[Chorus]
Baby, why'd you leave me, why'd you have to go?
I was counting on forever, now I'll never know
I can't even breathe
It's like I'm looking from a distance,
Standing in the background
Everybody's saying, he's not coming home now,
This can't be happening to me
This is just a dream

The preacher man said let us bow our heads and pray
Lord please lift his soul and heal this hurt
Then the congregation all stood up and sang
The saddest song that she ever heard
Then they handed her a folded up flag

And she held on to all she had left of him
Oh, and what could’ve been
And then guns rang one last shot
And it felt like a bullet in her heart

[Chorus]
Baby, why'd you leave me, why'd you have to go?
I was counting on forever, now I'll never know
I can't even breathe
It's like I'm looking from a distance,
Standing in the background
Everybody's saying, he's not comin' home now
This can't be happening to me
This is just a dream

[Chorus Reprise]
Oh, baby, why'd you leave me, why'd you have to go?
I was counting on forever, now I'll never know
Oh I'll never know
It's like I'm looking from a distance,
Standing in the background
Everybody's saying, he's not coming home now
This can't be happening to me
This is just a dream
Oh, this is just a dream
Just a dream
Yeah, yeah...

its about a girl and a guy that get married and he goes off to war and gets killed
