the 80s was the best music ever! It just had good lyrics and good music. music anytime after that has mostly stupid lyrics or very degrading

Music from the 60s - 70s when it was a challenge to get ahead.

These days it seems like if you have the money you can pay for people to make you sound good, just for those 15 minutes of fame.

Like The Beatles being turned down by that manager because the concept was 'out', these days there rarely is any uniqueness to a band, you can guarantee if one band comes out with a good sound, there will be mirrors to follow.

the 1960s, the Bristish invasion among other things, don't forget Dylan!!!!

80s. The music was entertaining, colorful, often funny. The 80s have been one of the most free decades in recent history. Fashion included wild colors and often gaudy designs. It was a care-free time for America and the music matched the mood.

Have to go with the 70s (though the 80s run a close 2nd)
The music of the 70s were performed - there was stage presence, there was a "show" when you went to a concert . It wasnt just someone on stage singing - they had BANDS - it was a full sound - and the lyrics were enjoyable .

For the most part, any music that came before the first few years of MTV (1950's- about 1990) is better than anything that has come out since then, with some exception. Ever since MTV and music videos came about, where people could actually see who is singing the songs they listen to on a daily basis, the music industry hasn't been so much about how well people sing, as it has been about how people look.

Even the first few years of MTV, when videos were a new concept, it didn't really matter how people looked. However, as the years went on, the people got prettier and prettier, and the music got worse and worse.

My top three decades in order for music are:

The 80's, because that is when I was a teenager, so it is the soundtrack of my childhood.

The 60's, because it gave us such greats as the Beatles, the Rolling Stones, The Doors, etc.

The 70's, because it brings back great memories of my very early childhood, and also was the era of Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, disco (some of which was great, some of which s*cked, but boy did it stir up some great controversy!), and my favorite thing in the world to clean my house to, soft rock. (pathetic, I know, but it's true. LOL)

The 70s were a bit dull
The 80s were my teenage years so very much entwined with my identity
The 90s were difficult to describe but with hindsight served much the same purpose as the 70s.. a dull lull with flashes of brilliance
The 00s are fabulous, I've seen more live bands in this decade that all the others put together, I'm really loving now

1990s for me:
Stone Roses
James
Happy Mondays
Oasis
Blur
Nirvana
dEUS

I would take the 1970's. There was such a variety and amount of music created in that decade. You had the last Beatle hits along with their solo careers. Rolling Stones, The Who, Led Zepplin, Pink Floyd, Steely Dan, Elton John when he rocked, Skynard, Rush, AC/DC, and I could go on with artists that had big hits during this decade.

For rock.....definitely the 1970s!! Back then, you had real musicians, songwriters, and REAL shows!! Artists at that time were strongly passionate about their music and as a musician myself......I strongly respect that and that's the kind of thing I look for in talent.

The 1880s.
Can't beat Journey....

The 1970's... Pick the top 10 rock songs of all time and guess which decade most of them come from.
Plus, you had the peak of Zeppelin, Eagles, Who, Stones, Skynyrd, Deep Purple,
Add the development of punk, funk, disco, and early formulations of new wave with Blondie, Talking Heads and others at CBGB.

1980's Why Because its what I grew up with.
Metallica, Megadeth, AC/DC with Brian, Ozzy Solo, Iron Maiden with Bruce, etc...
Do you need any other examples or did that just rock your socks off ??

80's

If I was to give a bias opinion about the matter I would have to say 50's country, late sixties to late 70's rock. The greatest writers and artists came out during this time period. Today the music is all the same. repeated lyrics like party like a rock star, superman song if thats what its called i don't know nor will i ever cause its not appealing to me. I was raise by a band director turned professor. I watched alot of talented kids play music who deserve more recognition than some of the two bit wanna be gangster rappers. the 90's saw a couple of great artists such as Nirvana they were original and on spot with the alternative crowd. Im not saying that the rest of the generations had nothing to offer just not as much.
