I heard it on TV some time ago, and I liked it. I thought it was Alanis Morissette's song, it sounded pretty much like her, but then I looked at the TV and it was not her O_O. Then I checked it up on the internet, and found that both Alanis Morissette and Meredith Brooks sing this song..?
Did someone get confused here..? Is this Meredith's (whoever she is) song, and it sounded so much like Alanis that people thought it was hers, or did Alanis make a cover of it (or was it otherwise)?

Ah, the Internet. The suckiest claims ever.
Meredith Brooks is the original singer. When the song hit the airwaves, listeners believed that Alanis produced this song, and so the Internet followed that, and a lot of lyrics sites would credit Alanis as the singer. I don't believe she did a cover.
It's not really with "B*tch", either. Three Doors Down and Third Eye Blind were wrongly credited for Nine Days' "Absolutely (Story Of A Girl)". It really just happens.
