Question: Religion factor what you listen to. For instance I'm a huge metal fan but I'm Catholic so I tend to shy away from listening to Black Metal. I like some bands and songs but I'm not really a hardcore fan.

Nah. Music is not a sin. I'm a hardcore fan of Black Metal,Death Metal, and all Metal except Nu Metal,and Metalcore. Nothing has happened to me I'm not evil or anything. A lot of Black Metal bands don't have satanic lyrics to even though it may sound satanic judgeing it by its instruments in songs. Lol.
EDIT: Oh yeah I forgot to put my religion. I'm Christian btw. Lol :)
Religion does not influence any of the decisions in my life which includes what I listen to, what I watch and what I read.
For the most part, I try not to take religion into account, you can be religious or non-religious and still make excellent music. I personally am not religious but have found a few christian metal bands I really like.
One of the reasons why I never wanted to be a christian is because of my love for metal. I chose metal over a god. That is not the main reason why, but my music help keep me away from religion
there are christian metal bands.... i dont think its your faith holding you back from what you listen to, but just what music you like.
No you shouldn't let the music you listen to influence you like that. What you should take into consideration is in your case is to not let the type of music you listen to influence you by affecting your beliefs, and most of all habits. Listen to what you want to but always remember your true moral values.
For the most part I listen to Christian bands, but then again Bring Me The Horizon and Suicide Silence are bands I love.
no I don't let it effect my religion, i'm a christian and my parents are huge christians...but I listen to whatever I want. I say you should try out some black metal.

Yup. Same here. For example, I listen to only a few Lamb of God and Hatebreed songs. There are other bands that I can't think of now but I definantly understand what you're trying to say.
I don't like religious bands. I wouldn't care if they were christian,muslim, or hare krishna. Its a turn off. So I suppose it doesn't.
Its really a personal choice. If black metal is outside your comfort zone , then don't listen to it. Be true to yourself, no one else has to answer for what you do. If you like christian rock, go for it.
I used to let it ruin me, but I'm better. Based on what other Christians (in church) told me, they said it was "really bad" to listen to rock and stuff. I'm a HUGE music fan, and it's my life and I do listen to everything. I'm not a much of a metal fan, but I love rock though. As long as it's not talking bad (blaspemy) about God or Jesus, then there's nothing wrong with it and I wish that they would stop using stereotypes against rock music. I listen to Paramore, Flyleaf, Linkin Park, Evanescence, Lacuna Coil, Fall Out Boy, My Chemical Romance, Incubus, The Chiodos, Greenday, and many more.
i feel that just because an artist holds different view than me, i don't think it should keep from enjoying their music. i listen to a lot of christian bands, but just because a band isn't doesn't keep me from enjoying the music.

Its just a song it want hurt you and religion shouldn't stop you from listening to what you want to hear its not like your doing what the songs saying or believing in.
