Pricing a piano...?!

Question: I am going to look at a young chang bergman model not sure of the year. Its white baby grand. A bank took it and just want to sell it soon. They are asking for a price. I hear it is in good condition and plays well. But I haven't seen it. If it is as good as it sounds how much should I ask for it? Thank you I appreciate your time and answers.

I would not buy a Young Chang myself. The tone of their pianos is poor. However, its value depends to some degree on where it is located. I would stick to Yamaha, Kawai or a reconditioned American instrument if I were you.

Larry Fine has written some books on pianos and their values. This should give you a ballpark figure. However, the BEST way to determine the value of this instrument is to pay a qualified technician to go with you to look at the instrument. They can best tell you what hidden problems the instrument might have, if any parts have been replaced and why, etc. Considering what a piano costs, their fee is priceless to you.
