Kay... First of all I love your questions and I am in the exact same position as you... Lead singer/rythm guitarist of a grunge band :D
Right... first, practise the guitar alone a lot. Then practisr the singing a lot. Then start with the mors basic guitar part, and start slowly singing with it. Practise even more... and you'll be invincible :D
Good luck... e-mail me (if you want) cos I don't know anyone else in the same position...
Are you songwriter too?

I can't do it either, man. i can't run two differnt melodies through my head at the same time like that.

Just a matter of practice, man. No ways around it.

It does help if you know the song VERY well.

try playing and singing the song slowly and then increase the speed as you get better

It is just down to practice but also bear in mind that there are certian guitar techniques that make singing a harder, i.e. Fret hand or Palm muting, fingerstlye, playing melodies or syncopation. In the end it is just down to enough practice and it becomes second nature and you can play without thinking about it.

keep trying, practice and balancing with arm and your singing. try it with your fav. song

don't give up. some day it will all just "click". that's what happened to me. i can't explain it. it just happened. now i can't do one without the other.

Practice practice practice. Either you can sing and play at the same time, or not. I'm one of those than can not.
