Angus Young doesn't get the credit he deserves because AC/DC is basically a 3 chord band. He is still the man in my book. Pete Townsend, I saw him in 1989 at Arrowhead Stadium and the acoustic set was really awesome. Brent Hinds of Mastodon is a favorite also, hard and fast yet melodic. For guitar players no longer alive Jimi Hendrix and Jerry Garcia have to be at the top of the list. Jerry could flat out jam on anything with strings (banjo, guitar, mandolin...etc) and Jimi did stuff that still hasn't been duplicated.
Slash is the first name that popped into my head although I am sure there are others.
