Why does the quality of a singer's music somehow seem to digress as the year!

Question: I don't know if I have correctly used the term 'digress' but what I mean is if you listen to any singer's or band's first album and compare it to the most recent album, the quality of music has drastically changed? Is it to suit the changing times? Or is it because artists sell-out more and more? Or were some artists never really talented to begin with? Please share your thoughts.

some singers have got to make the first one the best so it will sell then after that they dont care they always say there second or third is best when its not.

I would think for the same reason their hearing, eye sight and general health goes down with age. Of course there are exceptions such as Mick Jagger and the Stones. Not bad for a bunch of Grandpa's are they ?

They get older and their voice gets weaker

I think it might be that they put all their heart into the first album to prove themselves and then just got comfortable with their success and do not try as hard.

A lot of times those new artist with a first album are the ones that get the most Grammy nominations and then they do not get as many on their second or third.

Well for starters that's a pretty wide generalization. It really depends on the singer to be truthful. Alberta Hunter is a case in point - wonderful blues and jazz singer whose career spanned 6 decades and her last album recorded when she was 88 years old was her very best one. Joan Baez, Joanie Mitchell, Carly Simon, Aretha Franklin, Billie Holiday, Bing Crosby, Frank Sinatra, Tina Turner, Barbara Streisand, Elvis Costello, Connie Dover, Alison Krauss, Bonnie Raitt, Ella Fitzgerald, Sarah Vaughn, Bono of U2.... the list goes on and on of wonderful singers who've got nothing but better as the years went by.
It also depends on the singer's technique. The ones you are thinking of probably had lousy technique and their voices simply didn't last.
Hope that helps.... listen to some of the people I've listed. You'll see.
