Why does ebay protect sellers more than buyers?!

Question: i recently bought a scratchplate from 'watchingthewaters' from ebay (uk). it arrived but the holes didn't meet up on my guitar, i wanted a refund, but he told me to 'drill new holes in my guitar' instead. I told him i didnt want to, and after a week of haggling he finally agreed to a refund, i sent the item back but surprise surprise, he said it didnt arrive and that it must have been 'lost'. So i left him bad feedback and he responded with leaving me bad feedback (unjustifiably) then he even reported me and i still have no refund, i hate ebay, other times i buy something and it just never arrives. how can i get my money back?

Bonjour

Basically in this way they can make more business and and you see sellers pay them money where as buyers dont!

aurevoir

cos sellers pay the fees

Did you ship it back with tracking? If you did, you can prove you returned it and can get a refund. If you did not, than you cannot prove you returned it and will not get a refund. Those are basic ebay rules. It is for everyone's protection. To keep scammers from saying they returned an item and getting a refund when they did not actually return it.

You must ALWAYS send refunds by recorded mail. If you don't you have no proof that you sent it back, they can do as in your case claim they never recieved it. I'm both a buyer AND seller on ebay and can see both sides of this tale.
Instead of leaving negative feedback you should have filed a dispute with Ebay. By doing this you are also letting them know about potential 'bad' sellers.
In the case of the items that never arrive it's simple just file an 'item not recieved' dispute and then let Ebay do all the legwork for you, they aren't really so bad you know!!
Hopes this helps...

Speaking as both a buyer and seller, it is often the buyer who is better protected.

Did you actually open a Paypal dispute? If so, they always tell you to return items via a trackable means, to protect yourself.
