When practicing to learn Death & Black Metal vocals...?!

Question: When you're a beginner if using the proper technique is it okay for your voice to feel a little dry even if you drink a lot of water before, during, and after practicing?

It's normal, but try to keep it moist and well lubricated. You really tear your vocal cords when you first start out. Eventually you get the hang of it. Try to drink water during the process

Wayne Static would know!

Yes. I have been practicing my death growls and even some falsetto for a few years now and I still don't have it right.

The bassist for static X should be their singer, hes in a band called ASESINO which ******* rules, but static X sucks theyre ******* sell outs...but answer to the question. I was in a grindcore band and we didint use a mic. so i screamed the **** out of my lungs and throat and drank tons of water and my throat was fucked, youll be fine...in the meantime listen to ASESINO they rule

Do you inhale or exhale?

...maybe that's hardcore...

hXc all the way.

it sounds weird but when you're growling , try and keep it at a low growl and constant , continue practicing until your throat gets use to it . Drink tons of water not only before and after , but during this exercise. Your Vocal chords no matter what will be raw until you can sustain the exercise long enough so that you just get use to it . Same goes for any octave really , but death tones take the harshest toll .

hope I helped .
