What's the difference between rock and pop?!

Pop music has a different sound that it brings to listeners. Pop music is looked upon at singing more that rythmn. It is also I type of music that people can learn to dance with, where as rock music is more about letting out your emotions through music.
Rock music can be split up into many different genres. You have Atlernative Rock, Hard Rock, Classic Rock, Soft Rock, Indie Rock, and all types of Metal. Where as pop is usually focused in only one area of music.
Most pop artists come in singles or group singers (like the Backstreet Boys). Rock music is made up of band members who are very skilled in playing different types of instruments.
Overall if there was one type of music that I would suggest to you, it would be Rock music. You change the sounds to Rock music to fit your mood so easily. This is why there are so many Rock genres. Rock music can be played in so many different ways!

No there is no difference, Rock is a form of pop music as is Disco, Alternative, Grunge etc.. they are all pop regardless of the sub genre they get classified as. The Ramones are my favorite pop band and they helped invent Punk which is "POP MUSIC" if it sells a record and gets played on radio its pop! or if its on an Ipod or TV commercial it is now POP!
I've often wondered where rock ends and pop begins. It's definitely a fine line at times. Really, pop doesn't mean much— is it a style of music, or simply "popular" music at the time? I know that wasn't an anwer, but oh well. ;D

pop:popular music or 2nd definition is its upbeat funky music with more effects,and more edit but usually with the same instruments of rock music
Rock: this depends what type of rock is it but rock music has guitars,drums,bass,singer(common) and rock is up beat too and makes you wanna jump. I LOVE ROCK!!

pop is the over-played mind numbingly stupid stuff that they would play, oh at a school dance or something....think those goofy rap song that have lame dances that go with them (soulja boy anyone?) or equally painfull and stupid, britney spears, hilary duff, Miley cryrus, justin timberlake, and crap like that......you know, distorted, edited vocals with a computerized beat with lyrics that are dumb and meaningless. anything along those lines is POP.
ROCK on the other hand is cool....but i don't know why i'd give you examples for this because if you even had to ask this question you don't know any rock artists.....but think lyrics with meaning, REAL insturments, and a raw sound thats not all edited-perfect-computerized crap. yeah haha in other words TALENT!!

rock is either hard , soft or classic or metal. and it lets the singer or singers let go of their emotions
pop= ashley tidale,Britney Spears,Christina Aguilera,Jessica Simpson and stuff like that and most of them dont really sing live they lip sing.
rock= afi,the distillers,i am ghost,atreyu,it dies today,the unseen
and stuff like that and they really sing live no matter how much they suck and that what counts.
and then you got pop rock= crap like fall out boy and green day and there many more who say there rock when there really not.
so really the difference is if you like to dance and move your hips and dont care it they sing or not listen to pop but
if you like to be in a crowd and go crazy and just rock out
listen to rock music all types are good but if you to listen to
something in between then listen to poprock its kinda dance and kinda crazy.so really the difference is the beat and the energy. it all depends on what you like.
