The important thing to consider here is that Zakk, along with just about every other touring pro, uses an all-tube amplifier. You simply can't get the harmonics, tone, and overdrive from a solid state amp that you hear (and love) with a tube amp. This is one of the common falacies that suck in newer or unaware guitarists. With the technology offered today, modeling amps are initially attractive because of the promise of "so many sounds from one amp." Yeah, it's close, but it's no cigar when you're really trying to nail a specific tone. The other factor that makes solid state amps so attractive is that they're less expensive than tube amps. Keep in mind that a 15 watt tube amp is going to be louder than a 50 watt solid state amplifier and it's going to sound more like what you want to hear as well. I'm not going to tout any brand names here, because it YOUR ears that will have to be satisfied. Your can't do that through catalogs or the Internet. Shopping for instruments and gear should be done the old-fashioned way; go to the stores, demo everything you can, and then make a qualified decision based on your personal research. Happy Trails.

By the way, the last good JCM 800's were made in the mid-80's and now carry a pretty hefty price tag. In my estimation, Marshall just doesn't produce the same amps now that their reputation is built upon. So what's new?

roland

Behringer.

Try a Randall amp or a Vox Valvetronix amp

I loved the Vox Valvetronix too....mean sounding tube amp.

KISS, Sevendust, George Lynch, Good Charlotte, Disturbed, Dimebag Darrel ( RIP) have all used Randall amps. They arent junk....I'm getting one when I can afford it

You can see them here right here

Good luck

If you really have a Gibson Les Paul Custom guitar as you claim, (I don't believe you or you won't be asking this question) then why wouldn't you spend the money on the Marshall???

If you want to duplicate someone's tone (especially a tone as distinct as Zakk's - ooooh, I'm getting chills thinking of it) you have to duplicate their rig. Sorry. Shell out for the JCM 800 - it's the Mustang of amps for a reason.

Nothing substitutes for a Marshall.....

If you're going to use the pedal, its kind of irrelevant of what amp you use. Zakk uses more effects and studio tricks to get his tone. You'll have to do some research and find out what he uses and be prepared to lay out some cash if you really want the exact tone.

The ZW custom LP is an Epiphone, not a Gibson (referring to earlier poster comment)

you have a Gibson Les Paul??? and a line 6 amp? and a zakk wylde overdrive pedal??

line 6 amps with pedals dont sound very good at all, it sounds digital---i guess thats why u dont like the amp. u cant mix digital amps with distortion pedals i guess.

anyways, if u are a serious guitarist, id just save up for the marshall that u want; cause dont u wanna play the real thing one day?
