Why do drummers put water on top of their drums?!

Question: I've seen it before. It splashes. It's awesome. But does it serve a purpose?

Answers: I've seen it before. It splashes. It's awesome. But does it serve a purpose?

Yes it serves a purpose

It is called Hydra Tones

It looks cool in a video but, it actually distorts the "tone" and "bass" of the drum skin

In a video they use regular water but in the studio they use heavy water
Not H20 but H30

One of the first to use Hydra Tones was Roger Waters of Pink Floyd on his solo album Amused to Death

I have never seen this.

I don't think theres a purpose. Maybe they just put it on there, so when the songs over they won't have to reach over to the ground to pick it up to get a sip of water. I don't know. I've never seen that before.

cuz its the only instrument that wont electrocute them when they pour water on it so they can. and i havent ever seen it either but sounds like a good idea

not really but it is freaking awsome it is right underneath baby powder (now that is cool) so yeah i think that it is really awsome and it really doesn't matter if it severs a purpose because awsomennes does not have to serve a purpose

You must be talking about something you saw on video - no actual music merit.

Just for the visual effect. It doesn't improve playing or help the drumskins in any way.

I've never done this.....

I think they do it for a "splash water" visual effect really...
You know? ...

The drums get thirst too through a long set!!! Wouldn't you if you get beat on for hours???

Because people think it looks cool in a video. It actually ruins the drum head.
