Are there any modern rock bands as great as 'The Who'?!

Question: Pete Townshend's band were fantastic, great songs, energy and humour. 'Tommy' and 'Quadrophenia' are two of the most intelligent and powerful rock albums ever in my opinion.

Can anyone recommend some more recent rock bands with a similar sound or feel. I can't think of many.

I agree with you 100%. I saw The Who last Feb. ('07) and Roger still sang great and Pete was as inspiring as he ever was on the guitar and his wit. I only wish there were younger bands who lived up to this level... Hopefully there will be more, one of these days....
I think Quadrophenia is one of the great rock albums of all time but also one of the most under rated.
During the Feb '07 concert, Roger sang the song "Good Looking Boy" and paid tribute to Elvis. He said Elvis inspired him to sing when he was a young lad in England. Roger was so humble. It was a beautiful tribute.

No can't think of any modern stuff that is as good as The Who

Foo Fighters

Not really, But the Red Hot Chilli peppers are close, maybe green day

Recent? Sorry, can't help you with that. Music simply doesn't compare to that of The Who anymore.

Well, U2, Red Hot Chili Peppers & Aerosmith come to mind.

the best present day "rock" group is the White Stripes, And i saw the Who in 1971

There are few bands as great as The Who, but maybe the closest new band is Muse. They have 5 albums and their stuff is excellent.

HELL YEAH!!!!! U2, Green Day, Led Zepplin, Pink Floyd, Nickelback, Cold play, and more! Come on!

Of course not, nothing compares. The closest you'll find could be Muse and Wolfmother...not that they sound similar to The Who, but they aren't bad for modern day bands.

As "great" as the Who? Not that hard to do if they're your benchmark for greatness! There are TONS of bands since The Who that are just as "great" if not greater!

wolfmother is good

I agree with Kingler.

foo fighters or paramore
but zeppelin were better than the who ;)

people are just naming stuff that is popular at the moment but really aren't going to be for too long.

to answer your question no, there isn't a band around that is as great as the who

lol, the foo fighters are not at all like the Who. anyway, try

Wolfmother

it's like combining Zeppelin & the Who. They're not as good as either of those i don't think, but it's i guess the same style music. cool band any way you look at them, but i hate it that people think they rip off zeppelin just because they played communication breakdown when zeppelin was voted into the hall of fame
