Sand possibly on a lake but she's probably seen walking in Ca.

People go to the beach to reflect sometimes and with what happened and she supposedly torments herself by walking the beach thinking about Cheyenne but is a metaphor however....So she's walking the beaches of Cheyenne

cheyenne is more than just wyoming :)

* Cheyenne Mountain, a Colorado mountain and military complex
* Cheyenne, Wyoming, the capital of Wyoming
* Cheyenne, Oklahoma, a town in Roger Mills County, Oklahoma
* Cheyenne River
* Cheyenne County, Colorado
* Cheyenne County, Kansas
* Cheyenne County, Nebraska
* Cheyenne River Indian Reservation in South Dakota
* Northern Cheyenne Indian Reservation in Montana
* Cheyenne Wells, Colorado

what makes you think it refers to cheyenne, wyoming?

I think the point of the song is that she thought that things were different than they really are - it's a symbol that nothing was real, etc.

He is talking about Wyoming because he died while at the rodeo. There are lakes and beaches in Cheyenne. You don't need an ocean to have a beach.

The song does say Wyoming but it also says California sand. Maybe she is walking the beaches of California longing for him in Cheyenne. I think it is a metaphor.

actually, it doesn't say that SHE was in cheyenne, her man went, to a rodeo in cheyenne (wyoming)and died there.

Anony, he definitely is singing about Wyoming because he says it in the song. Part of the lyric is "He was up in WYOMING, and drew a bull no man could ride."

Anyway, to answer your question, I'm not sure. I wondered about that too. Because she's not in Wyoming with him when he died. My guess is that they lived in California and then he went to Cheyenne for the rodeo. When she heard he died, she ran into the ocean in California. And maybe the Cheyenne part is that her ghost or whatever is in Cheyenne, where he died.

I dunno. He needs to explain that song, haha.

The beaches are in California where she was when she got the news he had been killed in Cheyenne. She drowned herself in the ocean in California. Her ghost still walks those beaches carrying the guilt of what she said to him before he died.
This is my interpretation of the song , by the way this is an awesome song by Garth!!

i agree with Sawmill on this question..
