Nothing helps more than finding someone already decent at it to show you some basic ropes. If that's not possible, there are some DVD's out just for learning the instrument. Upon finding your way around the harp, figure at least several months of sincere practice to be accomplished. The coolest thing about a harmonica is that you can take it with you just about anywhere and practice while you're walking or hanging out.
It depends on how determined you are to learn it and how much talent you have. If you have both determination and talent, it doesn't take too long to get good at it.
