90's hip hop was the most innovative music. but modern rap songs by soulja boy/ flo rida are whats going to kill modern rap.
Maybe 25, 20, even 15 years ago. Now, it's probably the least innovative of all music genres.
In the 90's I would have definitely said YES. But now sadly rap has become as generic as every other genre. Chuck D where are you!!!!!! It wouldn't matter anyway, he couldn't get Flavor Flav away from his hunt for romance. Flavor Flav on VH1!!!!!! What has the world come to!!!
Hip Hop is the most innovative music today in the sense that it is the only music that is changing. Even if it changes in ways that some might not like it to (Soulja Boy, Hurricane Chris). Hip Hop is the only music genre that has such a wide range of artist.
In my opinion, rap is over the hill. It reached apex in the 90s. The most inovative music would probably be tech metal or electro grindcore. Tech metal is very heavy music played outside of conventional time signature (4/4). Electro Grindcore is comparative to bad techno beats with someone screaming at the top of their lungs over it. I'm not a fan of either, but they're probably the newest genres out there.
