Steven this is a very interesting question that you have asked today. The reason why people think that Metal music is the "devil's music" is because of the stereotypes the Media casts on them. Their image as well into looking scary frightens and terrifies those who are unfirmiliar to the genre. Just the other day I was at guitar class and was showing my guitar teacher some of my songs from Metal bands that I listened to for him to write the guitar notes for me,and once the music turned on a lot of complaints from outside yelling "that music is from the devil", "that music is from satan", "that music is evil and needs to shutup." Its amazing how many people believe stereotypes and prejudge something that they have never giving a chance and most likely unwilling to. But mostly most people who think Metal music is evil are focoused on the image, where as the Rap artists (nowadays) they are rich and dress nice (according to whats acceptd by society) and think the music is good because of their image because it doens't look scary (where as the Metal image frightens people.) The lyrics of Metal 9.5/10 aren't evil or Satanic at all if they are open minded to explore the genre's lyrics, even though the instruments of the songs may sound evil which makes them prejudge to.
EDIT: I have to Steven. I've even asked a question to all the most elite Underground Rap fans to recommend me music in the Rap & Hip-Hop section. Tried all those Underground artists out they recommended. None of them appealed to me. They all sucked. I was open minded enough to explore but I find the fake drum beats repetitive and made up words,and the fact that they weren't playing instruments had no musicianship at all.
In truth? Bad taste and utter stupidity.
There are good rappers still around today. Immortal Technique, Atmosphere, and Jedi Mind Tricks are amazing. Anyways, I agree with the guy below me, rap is mostly associated with being a Gangster.
For the people giving me thumbs down, I'm not a hip hop junky. I'm a metalhead, I'm just open-minded enough to be able to enjoy more than one genre.
It's funny how people say you like the devil or something when you listen to metal, well with C-rap its more associated with gangster, I guess, but whats funny is when I get a gangster rapper or whatever you call em, to listen to lets say Gwar, and they think I' m freakin crazy!!!!

Rap glorifies how people whom have lived in urban areas have aggressed their way from poverty to where they feel they are in control of their lives. In my opinion, the problem with rap is that the position these people are bragging about in no way appeals to most people's dreams. In short, they're trying to make it seem okay to be a gangsta or live in the projects.
That's garbage.
You want to impress people that don't rap? Jump out of the culture completely, speak good English, and find something on this planet worth not punking for money and sing about it.
well, everyone has their own tastes in music, and you can;t say that rap music is the worst kind of music. i, for example, can't stand metal (no offense), but i love rock and rap. yes, most rap songs are about sex, money, drugs, robberies, but some are really good songs. listen to kanye west, he has GREAT songs. it matters what you like.

Well i am definitely a huge metal fan no doubt about it.... I think that even though rappers may not have the best things to say, they are really talented... you gotta admit it. seriously, it takes talent to be a good rapper. I still think metal is the best and that takes the most talent (I mean come on, what other kind of band can play the drums and guitar like a metal band right? and i'd like to see a country singer try to scream) but rappers are pretty dang good at what they do too. So even though they say a lot of stuff we really dont want to hear about, give em some credit.
rap is crap. that's been my motto since... forever. that may be very true as most of the mainstream rap is about that stuff. i'm not too into rap, but if you do some research, i bet you could find quite a few rappers that don't write about scoring chicks and selling drugs.
i certainly agree to that. i go to a school that you can call "ghetto" and they call the rockers "devil worshipers". i find it funny because after they "rank" (as they like to call it) on rock, they don't realize that rap is even worse. so what if rock is loud? and sure sometimes, some rock songs would talk about drugs, but that is only limited. rap (in general) on the other hand talks about not only drugs but advocates being materialistic, having promiscuous sex, and treat women as if they were animals or objects whose purpose in life is to satisfy men sexually.
i'm not saying that all rap music is like this (i know some groups such as fort minor aren't) but before associating rock or metal with the devil, please listen to your type of music carefully first.
