I don't feel like it degrades me personally because I don't carry myself in that way. I do feel that due to lack of parenting (now and days alot of paren'ts arent doing there job) the main stream rap (music videos and radio) targets on the weak minded in a negative way and unfortunately there is to many weak minded boys and girls. What I'm trying to say is that based on what I've seen many guys try to emulate this type of behavior of degrading women and many girls also think the only way they can get a man and feel appreciated is to degrade themselves to get attention. Because of all that the supply of classy women and classy men are running lower and lower. (Parents need to do their job)

good question....no i don't feel that hip hop degrades me because i know who i am and what i stand for & what i won't stand for. i know i don't fall into that category of how most artists talk about females. i won't say that i'm okay with them calling females b*tches & etc., but they are going to rap about what they want to so i can't stop them. i like some of it, but there's only so much of it that i can listen to.

Hell no

I personally don't feel degraded by the rap it self, but I feel degraded when young men think its appropriate to emulate that behavior.

hip hop is sexy

were the bitches and hoes and your the pimp

so its all good.

Nobody agrees with me,
but I dont think so.

It doesn't degrade me at all.
I don't see why girls with big butts, mini skirts, and stilletos dancing all slutty would degrade anyone.

As long as you're not the one dancing in the video, it shouldn't insult you.

And all the rapping about sex shouldn't offend anyone either because they aren't talking about a specific girl that happens to listen to their music and is offended by it. They're talking about some random chick that probably doesn't even exist.

no because their not talking about me.

No, I'd stop listening if I did.

I asked a question about this a while back and I got some really intelligent responses from some of the women on here. The link is:

I hope that gives you some help with your research, because I was really impressed with some of the answers I got.

(don't worry, it's not one of those "Please answer my question" things, it was resolved ages ago!)

In a way, because all rap is about is sex and drugs.
But at the same time if you look at some major rappers like snoop and big boi they are married and whipped if i can say so..
so i know it's just a way of making money and i don't take it personally.

i feel it degrades the girls in the videos and it is not good for young viewers. they see these rapperss with these video girls and think its okay to act the same way in real life so in a way i do feel degraded

honestly no, i dont take no of it personally because when someone uses b*&^$ im so used to it n i kno im not one so i dont take it personal....im good

ask it the other way around

if women brought hip hop up

they would be degrading men

Rap artist Nas spoke the truth when he stated "Hip Hop is Dead" on his current cd. Gone are the days of conscious hip hop music that entertained us, spoke a message, and often times made us laugh. Today we have a group of artist who degrade women in their lyrics, they often speak about the pimp lifestyle also they brag about riches they claim to have.

I can not recall in any genre of music where women are referred to as ho's or bitches.

Hip Hop is supposed to uplift us as a people and show the rest of the world how strong a people African Americans really are. But today's hip hop music does the opposite; it degrades us, embarrasses us and perpetuates every stereotype against African Americans. Some may argue that the artist have a right to creative freedom, but I do not see anything creative in calling a woman a ho.

Hip Hop is such a major influence in today's society. You see it every where. From clothing at major department stores, to television commercials it was even displayed at the recent GOP Press Corps Dinner.

But it is not only the responsibility of the artist, the executives at these larger than life music companies also have a role to play in securing what our young people listen to. The fact is hip-hop superstars like Snoop Dog and 50 Cent are not hustling cd's out of the trunks of their cars, big corporations are distributing the crap disguised as rap.

There are many young rappers out there with positive messages and rap about having a good time without the profanity who are not able get record deals. It seems as if the only way a label would even consider signing you is if you have been shot 10 times, use the N word or refer to women as bitches and ho's. "Good" rap music is considered underground meanwhile the garbage that we hear daily on the radio and the videos that CBS/Viacom play on their music cable channels MTV and BET is considered mainstream. Now that CBS has fired Don Imus it will be interesting to see how they address these other issues within their corporation.

does it degrade ME? no. because I kno that im not a ho3 on the street or doing any of that stuff so i kno that it doesnt pertain to me. but it does bother me at timez, talking about women as a whole. because if a man succeeds in that with one, when he comez to a more sophisticated one, he is going to try the same thing and im sure we dont appreciate that.

BONNIETHON HAS SOME GOOD ANSWERS IN HER QUESTION.

i don't feel like hip hop degrades me because unless they actually call out my government name followed by "ur a b1tch or a hoe" then i don't take it personally bcuz they are not talking about me....and for all those who say "oh look at the way they exploit these girls in the videos, they are half naked"...blah blah blah...It's not like they are holding these girls hostage in the "video vixen concentration camp". These girls are fully aware of what they have to do and wear when they get the job....and they get paid for it....so basically they are "using what they got...to get what they want"

Words from Chris Rock - "If the beats all right, she will dance all night." and "If you ask a girl if she feels offeneded, they all give you the same answer... He ain't talking about me!"

P.S. I'm a guy, but I knew the answer.

I don't personally feel degraded but YES the lyrics are most definitely degrading to the female sex. It seems all they wanna do is put it in the mouth or f***. Whatever happened to romance. Is that dead?

the ones i listen to don't disrespect women as much actually

i think that calling women b*tch or h*e and telling the world that you are a pimp.. and you are rich etc etc isn't worth listening to.
yeah yeah beats are awesome the song is too catchy (i get those too) but it's like come on.. have just a little respect..
a lot of people say that it's not about them and it's okay. etc etc but it's like children see it and even immature guys believe that they have to be like that to get girls. kids lose their innocence so quickly these days and i don't want them to emulate what they see in videos
so i don't personally feel degraded. it's just i wish they could tone it down a little bit. that's what i have to say :)

I dont think so because they are just rapping about what they see and hear & the girls in the video choose thereself to be in the videos

I guess you mean HIP HOP music...lol

Anyways...No I dont think so...there are some artist that choose to do this thinking that it makes a cool song...I kno the difference when an artist is directing degradation towards a certain female...But then there are some that just go overboard with the b!tches and the hoes ish...But it would be a blanketed statement to say that hip hop music as a whole puts women down...when there are artist like the Jungle Brothers, Common, Talib, Dela, too many others to name not to mention the fact that there are Female rappers too. So it wouldnt make sense to say hip hop music put down women

everybody has their own opinions about rap videos
