this song was not planned to be released as a single.. the record company done it. in the old days fm radio was the only place to hear album rock, and the company thought it would be a good ballad to release. while the members were proud they in no way wanted to be made famous for this one song... listen to the albums Presence and , physical Graffitti.. thats the mighty Zep at their best

I much prefer Neil Sedaka's song "Stairway to Heaven."
It's not that good of a song. I like it, but it's nothing compared to some of Led Zeppelin's other material. In fact, I personally think Led Zeppelin is a joke compared to their other albums (but it is still nice).

no disrespect here but, where's the ? at so what you gave us song lyrics whoopty dooo!!!! like we can read liner notes for ourselves... It was a verrrrrrrrrrrrrry long song usually ppl would make out to it back in the day. Whole lota love was kinda creepy to me.. the guitar part... it made you feel like you were falling down this long deep hole while calling out for help. Well, known song but, next time you want to post a ? plz... thanx have a good one.
Led Zeppelin might be my favorite band and this is a great song...dont take it the wrong way but i think this song is a bit overrated. although i do like it

"Stairway To Heaven" is the most over played overrated song of all time, I'll give you that. Best song ever? Hardly!
Stairway was definitely overplayed in its time and there are WAY better Led Zeppelin songs out there. Try Kashmir, Heartbreaker, and All My Love
