What does the rock and roll hand gesture stand for?!

Question: You know the sign everyone uses at rock concerts? The index finger and the pinkie of one hand being raised? Where did it come from and what does it mean?

Thumbs up to all above me.
It DID come from Ronnie James Dio. His grandmother used to do this. It's known as the "Evil Eye" and is meant to ward off evil spirits.

I "think" it came from Dio. Not sure though. But it was used in Metal music to represent the Devil's horns. I think... sorry if I get it wrong thats just what my first instincts tell me.

well as far as i know it came from Ronnie james Dio.....i quess his granma was Catholic and she always did that to him! but i could be wrong

it was created by ronnie james dio.. something his grandma done when he was bad.. It ment" Th e Evil Eye" and , has been mistaken for devil horns not even close to the truth..

It means devil horns. When it is formed it also means 666. The index finger and the center is a 6 the pinkie finger is a six and the whole thing is a 6, 666.

hmm.. the Dio thing is true as far as I know, and the 666 thing (which must be a coincidence) too but if done properly by slightly curling the fingers the shadow (like the bunny rabbit thing against the wall) looks like a devil with a beard
