Can you help me, I wanna be in the music biz, read on ?!

Question: Hey, as some of you might have seen me around you would know that I am a very dedicated 12 year old lead guitarist who plays on a regular basis. I take this very very serious and have been playing 2 years - I am very good in my own/other people's opinion.

Getting to the point:
My music scene is absolute crap, no local bands or concerts, no bands come to play here. I want to make a band, how do I get started ?
I am very very veryyy serious about this and I have made up my decision that this is what I want to do in life. Do not bash me saying "you are too young." Because I've been told by someone older than me/lots of experience that as long as you're dedicated, you are not to young. I a able to write MY OWN work and play instruments myself.

I am into punk and metal and grunge as my main 3 genres.
How should I find some people to make a band with ? How do I actually get into the biz ? If your scene sucks, in a few years, how do you get (paying) gigs and get known ?

It's awesome that you have faith in yourself as a musician at such a young age...not many people have that. So thats a start!

I'd suggest you keep playing for a little while though, practise makes perfect and the more knowlege you know the more likely your band will be better?! Huh!

At school. I would have thought that SOMEONE would be able to play bass, 2nd guitar and a drummer.
A vocalist is harder to find, as it depends on the genre of music you want to play. If your looking into metal then you'l need a good screamer, that can do it PROPERLY. Punk might be easy and grunge is just a bit harder. Hold auditions. Just ask around. Ask friends...or friends of friends..and so on.

I wouldnt get too floundered into the 'rockstar' dream though, you have to be determined enough to WORK HARD. It's not all 'just-make-a-song-and-everyone-will-mosh... you have to work out the song technically and have each part co-ordinating with others. Im 15, and are pretty much in a similar case, although I do have a band. But we're just not getting anywhere.

Once you have a band together. Try just doing cover versions of songs you like, thats what my band does at the moment. And we'r getting good credit for it too. Then if you think your ready to get going with the real original stuff, try composing.

Gigs? At 12 years old or in a few years time? No. I really think not, stick in school. Ask your teachers if you could hold concerts AT school and then that way your mates can publicize you by them selves. Or try going to some local town hall or somewhere where the community of the place where you live gather. Cause gig managers will hardly let a band of 12 year olds play a gig in front of a proper audience. I know a lot of popular bands that havent even been able to get into their own gig cause their too young...and thats at 16-17. But once you start getting noticed, try going to pubs and locals. From there people will NOTICE YOU.

If you are serious. Try hooking up a MySpace....I know it sounds pretty cheesy. But look what it did for Enter Shikari and Bring Me The Horizon...theyre MASSIVE now.

Well hope this long thing helped!
Try a metal band......thatd be great!
But dude. I really do admire your confidence. Something which I definitely lack in.

I think you are in the right track by considering finding some possible band members. How to do it? Well, I think you have to post some announcements or classifieds that says you're looking for band members for a band you are planning to build. You can start in your school or your neighborhood.

I have no idea where you live, but there HAS to be something around where you are; a record store, a cafe, anything that would be willing to let you play. If there really is nothing in your town, would your parents be willing to bring you to a place, maybe another town close by, so that you could play there?

biggest obstacle find a good drummer. i remember when i barely started to jam with my friend who was terrible. We couldn't get anything done. when I started to jam with another drummer we ripped. I progressed as a musician tremendously by jamming.

Maybe after you've exhausted all outlets try convincing some friends to pick up an instrument.
Most importantly protect your ears.

Find/Make a band.
Get known or get a music myspace.
Have good supporters.

And your not to young because when Paramore first started recording the drummer was 14. :)

i no what ur saying this part of jersey sux for music. Try to get some band members go to a nehboring area try to find a place where they have battle of the bands pplay a free concert some where just play at any opertunity where there might be someone watching
