I'm not sure about the original asker, but Natasha Bedingfield's "Who Knows" was exactly the song I was looking for. I was hoping this sound carried into her other work, but it seems most of it is pretty much pop fluff.
If anyone is looking for music with this sort of sound who hasn't heard of Lily Allen, it's worth a look.
It really is obscenely difficult to find a song list for this film...
