You need to practice writing lyrics first, then start putting the music together with the lyrics. If you start writing the lyrics first, you should get an idea of what you would like to write. If any lrics start going through your head, you should write them down. Practice by putting verse's together first, then rhyme the songs and place the melody or tone of the song. Then you have a beginning. Once you have a song created that is yours send it to be copyrighted. I used to have the address but I don't have it now.
After you have written your songs find an agent to send them off for you. Song writing is long and ardous and you will have to find someone to sing them for you. However, we live in a new world and youtube can put them up for you today as well. Go to youtube and do a search. I was suprised at what I found there.lol

Take successful songs that you really enjoy and STUDY them. Study the parts and how they are laid out, pay attention to the changes and small details. After studying these songs, a pattern will emerge as to what works and what does not. Another great thing to do is do a comparison. Take songs that have NOT been very successful and you find sort of boring. Study them, then compare them to the successful ones. This can be a long process, but it's well worth it!
