It not just you......he is one of the worst singers ever!!! He sounds like he's constipated and is forcing his voice. So strained sounding. I don't get his fame AT ALL!!!

It's just you.

I think he's overrated. I think sometimes people come up, at a time when there's a kind of lull, and find themselves taken up by the next generation who have to have their own idols.

its the songwriting
the whole is NOT the sum of its parts
its like Bob Dylan he is not an amazing guitarist or vocalist but he writes songs like no other

I'm sorry you feel that way. Music is not all about good singing. Some of the best songs were written and sung by those with terrible voices, Bob Dylan, Neil Young and yes, The Boss. He is about the working class man. If you listen from that perspective it might change your opinion.

He's hit and miss with me. The stuff I like I REALLY like and the rest I can do without.

Bruce Springsteen is an amazing songwriter and performer. His songs speak to and for the common man. His shows are raw energy and emotions.

Just like some people don't understand or like Bob Dylan's music, some feel the same way about Bruce Springsteen, However there are far more people who like Bruce's music than don't, which is why he's been a hit for decades and will continue to be a hit.

It's just you! VH1's 'Story Tellers' featuring Bruce will change your opinion. Nothing short of genius! And he dosen't even do it for you. He just does it.

It's just you, Bruce Springsteen is amazing!

His, Neil Young's, and Bob Dylan's vocals are fine. I appreciate their grittiness.
His lyrics however don't impress me, maybe in his early years when he was expressing what he was really living, he was OK, but that has long since passed him.

Have you listened to every song on those 5 star cd?There is a reason for that rating.Talent my friend....

I think he is very overrated... I dont like his sound at all never did.. he can play but to each his own ... but its not for me

dude, I'm from Jersey and I can't stand Springsteen.

It's just you (and a few others)...

Many of his earlier albums are mandatory listening. 'Born To Run' strived to emulate Phil Spectors 'Wall of Sound' style on many tracks. Then 'Darkness on the Edge of Town' stripped a lot of it back but lyrically became more forthright. 'The River' combined many elements of both of those albums. 'Nebraska' is a nice simple acoustic, direct album. And even 'Born in the USA', as much airplay as it got, it was the 'deep tracks' off of it that shined the most. He hasn't been nearly as good since then, but a proper musical education requires an immersion in those discs...

His vocals are earnest, earthy, and fit the music. On 'Born to Run' the sometimes ornate music combined with his direct vocals had a kind of Lennon/McCartney effect on the album as a whole (by 'Lennon/McCartney' effect I am referring to a theory brought about by a writer from 'Musician' magazine (RIP) said that McCartneys usual ornate approach combined with Lennons usual directness [and acknowledged they were both capable of switching to the other style] made music that was both sonically interesting and lyrically true. People who bash the later Beatle works like someone did recently in a question really need to listen to music more).

His guitar playing, while I've never though of him as a great guitarist.... but the fact is that it fits what he does. Why should he try to either be a flashy player or play meticulous (sp?) notes & chords when the music requires none of those traits? Everything within a song (lead instruments, rhythm section, chords, timing, lyrics, vocals, engineering) is meant to serve the song.

And an essential element of 'The Boss' is his live shows. His shows were long & full of energy. His end of show medleys (which come after he's played a full 2 hours of his own classics) are the standard bearer against all other artists who attempt to do the same.

gotta agree w/ first answer.
