What is not hip-hop?!

These are the kind of things that you cannot easily get a ‘handle on’ by just reading up on Wikipedia etc. because...
*...The more I try to find out, the more I’m going, “Wait a minute, if real hip-hop is what it (historical definition/s) is/ was/ sounds like - then what on earth is the stuff we are fooled into believing is ‘hip-hop’?

When all the lyrics talk about how much ice they got and when the rapper says the hook 20 times. Ex. Mike Jones. Hip hop usually talks abot struggles or mayby a positive element such as getting out of the struggle. May talk about even having fun but makes the beat and flow stand out. Hope i answered your question.

well, actually hip-hop is not a music style... but for a good 20 years now the term 'hip-hop' is used to describe rap.
hip hop is a culture born in the bronx. just like any other culture it has its own dances, music, etc.
rap is the music that comes from the hip-hop culture.
but - rap isnt a term created by the hip hop culture.
some white guy (sarcastic?) made up the word 'rap' to describe this new music to his investors.
nowadays we have 2 types of rap:
mainstream (major lable)
underground (indie)
